Sod is a high-quality natural grass grown to its ideal conditions for use. It is held together by the roots or union mesh when ready to transplant to your garden. Our clients hire us to install it on golf courses, soccer fields, parks, gardens, etc.
Once we’ve laid our new lawn, we must do something else to ensure it stays in good condition. After all, it is important to care for new grass properly.
Once again, we tend to make certain mistakes when we think that we have already done enough and that we must wait for our beautiful grass to grow and turn green. However, the most important thing about aftercare is taking care of it. Let’s remember that it is a living plant.
Once we feel the roots start to sink and watering becomes less essential, the next stage is to move on to a different form of aftercare.
In these cases, it is suggested that a good fertilizer is applied after approximately 6 to 8 weeks. It should be a fertilizer rich in Magnesium Oxide, Iron and Phosphorus to contribute to the colour and development of healthy roots.
For example, grasses such as dwarf rye, the fertilizer used and the frequency of fertilization should be a part of the care program for that type of grass. Likewise, it is important to remember that when we cut and remove clippings, we remove some food and water from our newly laid or sown grass.

The following are some additional tips for aftercare of our new lawn:
Natural grass rolls
The applications of natural grass rolls and sods are many. Let us first remember that sod grass is nothing more than a ‘pre-cultivated’ grass prepared for immediate installation and enjoyment.
This type of grass installation has grown a lot in recent years because it offers many advantages compared to grass implantation through ‘seeding’. Although for large areas, the traditional method is more economical, for small facilities or surfaces, the installation of sod has more advantages.
Our sod grass is grown in a controlled manner and with full guarantee. Its crop is never less than one year of maturity; it is then when it is plucked and sent to our facilities for proper outdoor storage, where it acclimatizes and is supplied to the client in the agreed quantities and times.
Advantages of grass sod
There are many applications for natural grass rolls. Because we are in Valencia and in March we celebrate the Fallas with the arrival of spring, this moment is one of those that receive the greatest demand since we specialize in the supply of grass for Fallas.
Each fall commission has needs. Some prefer to go pick them up themselves at our base located in the Garden Center in Picassent, while others want it to be delivered to them at the foot of Falla; this is when we usually supply it at night directly from the production field, a day before the ‘plantá de la falla’, so that it is as fresh as possible and remains rolled up for the minimum amount of time, ready for the commissions to place it as the final culmination of the Falla.
For this specific case, it is very important to know the dimensions of the roll to know exactly the amount of grass necessary for Fallas monuments in each case. Our Tot U Garden Center in Valencia sells them all year round in rolls of 2.5 x 0.40 meters, equivalent to one square meter.
Laying grass sod
The sods that the U Garden Center in Valencia supplies have the same measurements as throughout the year, 2.50 x 0.40, which is equivalent to one square meter. The pallets contain 75 high-quality rolls that are perfectly rolled. Our machines, even if it is raining, can tear off and roll up the sod and be ready when needed.
Grass sods, being grown with sand and substrates, make them light, clean, do not break and are easy to place. We always recommend keeping them moist and shaded until the time of installation.
Sand is used as a base for laying the grass sod. In the Fallas monuments, we use planche (it has a little more gravel and a little less sand), and it is what we recommend. This is presented in a 25-kilo bag and gives better results than what was being used, which was sand. The ironing resists humidity much more and is much cleaner.
In the Fallas monuments, we must cut the sod with a cutter or knife, giving it the shape we want. There are never losses; all scraps can be used. When it is already placed, and everything is clean, it is watered. We must carry out this operation every morning so you can see the growth and rooting of the grass.
Our Tot U Garden Center in Valencia, we are specialist in sod and apart from selling them in rolls for the decoration of Fallas monuments, we also supply all those materials necessary for a better result, such as plants and decorative pots or planters for these occasions, as well as such as a wide range of aggregates, bark, glass, coloured sands, which further enhance the green of the grass and further decorate the Fallas monument.
Our specialists advise, measure and budget their projects at no cost so that the Falla is well “finished.” we know that it is a great point of improvement in completing the Falla monument.…
Here we can understand, and logically, a good price is sought as an important factor since we must remember that we are looking for a sod lawn for only a few days and knowing that its final destination will be shared with the monument with which it coexists: fire.
What is the price of sod grass for fallacies? For new customers, the first question they ask when requesting this product to decorate their Fallas monuments is that, as with everything, there are prices on the market for all tastes.
Some say so many euros per meter… it seems very cheap, and then it turns out that it is the linear meter, not the square meter. That is why it is important to know the dimensions of the roll when talking about prices since that is how we will know exactly the real quantity and, therefore, what we need.
Varieties and quality are also important; having a lawn with intense and healthy green varieties differs from having yellowish varieties. The green will contrast more with the monument and the asphalt, creating a perfect and elegant “green carpet”.
Additional elements that, in our case, make us experts in the supply of sod grass for fallacies, like delivery, assembly, guidance or assistance, and materials for better lawn implantation, can also have an impact on the cost.
How to plant natural grass in rolls or sods
Many doubts arise when deciding to plant natural grass in rolls or sods in our garden; from here, we will try to clarify all of them. Ultimately, you will see that it is a very simple task, and its results are incredible.
Our company specializes in producing and selling natural grass in rolls (tepes) for gardening and green areas. We get a grass of great resistance and beauty.
The first thing we must keep in mind is that sod is a perishable product. Therefore, their installation must be done immediately after receiving them. All our natural grass rolls are free of bald spots and weeds.
The natural grass slabs or sods are created from a careful selection of the best seeds and maturation in soil for more than twelve months. In this way, we achieve resistant natural grass that is dense and easy to root.
The sods are extracted from the ground at the time the order is confirmed by the client, using specialized machines, which extract each roll and palletize it, so its handling is minimal.
In the hottest months, this task is carried out at night so that the high temperatures do not damage the natural grass and the extraction is carried out in its optimal state of freshness. Both extraction and transportation are critical when handling rolls of natural grass.
Once the sod is extracted from the ground, it is loaded onto trucks to be taken to its destination. If the extraction has been carried out at night, the trucks load the product at dawn to keep its freshness intact. We will provide the telephone and shipping number to contact the transport agency, indicating the approximate delivery time.
Once the rolls are unloaded at our home, we must check the merchandise, checking that the sod arrives in a perfect state of freshness. They must be placed in the shade, and we must plant the sod immediately.
We must be clear that sod is a live plant that cannot be stored or kept rolled up until the next day. If this recommendation is not followed, the natural grass rolls could ferment.
Therefore, its installation must be immediate, and now we are going to clarify how to plant natural grass in rolls or sods.
The first thing we must do is clean the entire area where the sod will be placed of stones and weeds. To do this, we will apply a herbicide to eliminate them. By carrying out this simple task, we will facilitate its subsequent installation and guarantee the perfect plant rooting.
Before installing the sod, we must place the irrigation system and test it so that there are no surprises later. Small leaks that cause waterlogging in garden areas could seriously damage the natural grass. We must check that the irrigation is carried out uniformly, reaching all corners.…
It is recommended to cover the entire garden with a layer of mulch, topsoil and river sand in equal proportions, all well-homogenized. The land must be well established so that we do not leave footprints when walking across the land; that is the perfect state. We can use a roller to level the ground well.
With this, we would have the base where the sods will be installed. Now, we will set the guidelines for planting natural grass in rolls. We must be clear that it is a very simple task and can be done by oneself.
The natural grass rolls are easily manageable due to their measurements of 2.50 cm x 0.40 cm. Its weight ranges from 15 to 20 kg, making it easy to place.
To install it, we must unroll each sod on the ground as if they were carpets. The way they should be placed is staggered; the natural grass slabs should not be aligned.
The rolls of natural grass must be close together; we will bring each sod close together so that there is no separation between the lines. If, in some cases, we have not been able to join those lines well, we can top-dress with a mixture of peat and sand in equal parts.
We will be able to notice the joints during the first days; after these, the rolls of natural grass will have formed a completely dense layer. It will form a perfect green blanket, free of bald patches and weeds.
To adjust the sod to the decoration of the garden, pool, picnic area, trees,… we will only need a cutter or sharp knife. We will make the cuts where necessary, so that the rolls of natural grass adapt perfectly to the entire garden.
After installation, we will use a roller so that the sods come into good contact with the earth. This way, we will prevent air pockets from forming, which can cause great damage to that garden area in just a few hours.
Three irrigations should be carried out during the first ten days of its installation, even if it coincides with hours of intense sun. The most important thing is that the natural grass rolls root correctly.
After these first days, the irrigations will be spaced to only two, one in the early morning and another in the evening. The first mowing should be carried out fifteen days after installation and at a height of approximately 3 cm.
By following these simple steps on how to plant natural grass in rolls or sods, you will not have any problems, and you will get a garden in perfect condition—a resistant and sustainable natural grass.
Natural grass slabs have a great power of adaptation and regeneration; they can be installed on all types of terrain, flat or sloping, and at any time of the year. We can also use them to renew the entire garden or only plant each sod in those most damaged areas.
